SOUTHWICK – On April 26, Superintendent Jen Willard of the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District informed students and their families that Erin Fahey-Carrier has been chosen as the new principal of Powder Mill School. Carrier will officially start on July 1.
In the letter from Willard, she expressed her thoughts on why Carrier was a good selection for the position.
“Among Mrs. Carrier’s many strengths are her commitment to creating a shared vision of a 3-6 school, using data to inform decision making, and supporting teachers so they can focus on teaching,” Willard stated.
Carrier has spent the last five years as the Assistant Principal at Dupont Middle School in Chicopee and the four years prior to that as the Assistant Principal at Paper Mill Elementary School in Westfield. Carrier was also a Principal at Fort Meadow Early Childhood Center in Westfield for four years.
Carrier is excited to take on her new role in Southwick.
I’m just thrilled to be joining such a great community,” said Carrier.
Having the experience working in a grades 3-6 school, Carrier wants to build a plan going forward at Powder Mill School by meeting with the parents, families, and staff of the school.
“I have spent a lot of years working with this age group,” said Carrier. “I want to be able to take in information from them and see what they think the strengths are of the school.”
Carrier, along with other candidates for the position, went through an interview process on Tuesday and then proceeded to do a meet and greet with parents and staff at Powder Mill and the school committee members as well. It was something that made Carrier realize this was the position she wanted to pursue.
“That was such a great experience,” said Carrier. “That really made me know that I wanted the position.”
The position opened up when the current principal of Powder Mill, Kimberly Saso, was selected as the new Principal at Woodland School in March.
