WESTFIELD – State Police have announced that troopers will stage a “sobriety checkpoint” at a site somewhere in Hampden County on Friday. Sept. 13, to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness of the need to detect and remove motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs on the roadways in the Commonwealth.
Col. Timothy P. Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police announced that the checkpoint will be active Friday and will extend into the early hours of Saturday at an undisclosed location.
He said that the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured and that advance notice of the planned checkpoint is intended to minimize inconveniences to motorists and to reduce fear and anxiety.
