Shirley Desmond

SOUTHWICK: Shirley Louise (Wood) Desmond, 91, a longtime resident of Southwick, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Country Estates in Agawam. She was born and educated in Pittsfield, and was employed for over 30 years as a CNA at Noble Hospital in Westfield from which she retired in 1970. Shirley was predeceased by her husbands,Erwin Johnson, Robert D. Scott-Smith and Larry Desmond. She leaves five children, Ann Bessey and her husband Richard of Woronoco, Linda Moynihan of Westfield, Beverly Bickford and her husband Michael of Cardville, ME, Robert Scott-Smith and his wife Louise of Hampden, VA, and Thomas Scott-Smith and his wife Lauri of Southwick; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Scott-Smith of Southwick, and Patricia Johnson of Southampton; two brothers, James Wood of Amarilo, TX, and Kenneth Wood of Hinsdale, MA; three sisters, Helen Shiffman of Pittsfield, Beverly Bates and her husband Lawrence and Vera Hazeltine and her husband Robert all of St. Augustine, FL; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Richard Johnson and daughter, Jean Smith. A Memorial service will be held on May 9th at 11:00 AM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home with burial to follow at New Cemetery, both on College Highway in Southwick.Contributions in Shirley’s memory may be directed to the American Diabetes Assoc., 2080 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
