Rams chase Gators

SOUTHWICK – The high school spring sports season is racing full steam ahead at warp speed with often 3-, 4-, 5-, and even 6-game weeks for some on the local diamonds.
Despite all that, one local team donning green and gold has found its groove, leaving the competition green with envy.
The Southwick High School baseball team continued its strong start to 2015 with a 15-3 rout of visiting Gateway Tuesday. The Rams clubbed several hits, and teamed together for a solid effort on the mound.

“We had a bunch of guys pitch in today, obviously,” Southwick coach Tim Karetka said.
Nick Labodycz went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, falling a home run short of the cycle to lead Southwick; Bob Hamel homered; Jake Goodreau finished with two hits and four RBIs; and, Eddie Martinez, Dan McClellan, and Vinnie Fortini also collected two hits apiece.
Andrew Mitchell pitched three shutout innings for the Rams to begin the game. Joey Stratton finished up strong, allowing just three innings over the final frames.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Bombers trounce Gaels
Westfield 22, Holyoke Catholic 3
Westfield exploded for nearly two dozen goals in home rout of Holyoke Catholic.
Rachel Gelina (4 goals, 3 assists), Hannah Jarvis (1 goal, 3 assists), Laura Paye (3 goals), and Olivia Chaoush (4 goals, 1 assist) led the Bombers.
Westfield goalie Lexi Levere finished with five saves.
Cady Tyburski netted all three Holyoke Catholic goals.

GIRLS’ TENNIS
Demers, Wodell, Stanlewicz solid in loss
Frontier 5, St. Mary 0
St. Mary’s Jess Demers lost a hard-fought match at third single to Alli Zera, 6-4, 6-1. The Saints’ top doubles pair, Emily Wodell and Alison Stanlewicz, also battled tough, losing 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.

Gamble, Cooper, Dame lead Gators
Ware 28, Gateway 8

Audrey Gamble (double) and Jordan Cooper each went 3-for-3 for Gateway. Gators’ Gabby Dame was 2-for-3.
