WESTFIELD – Wrestling season has been extended well beyond its days at Westfield High School this year thanks to one prime time wrestler.
Westfield senior wrestler Austin Shrewsbury (heavyweight class) enjoyed an unbeaten run for most of the regular season, won a Western Massachusetts championship, and advanced through the states and New England Regionals.
At the regionals, he placed third for the second straight year.
Shrewsbury is now poised to take on the country at the 26th annual NHSCA High School Nationals at Virginia Beach March 27-29. He is the first Bomber in school history to attempt that feat.
Shrewsbury received his 100th career victory at the Lowell Holiday Tournament, currently holds more than 130 wins.
The senior heavyweight recently signed his academic scholarship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he plans to study computer engineering and wrestle for the Engineers.
“Westfield is very proud to have Austin represent us,” Westfield High School athletic director Karen Gomez said.
