WESTFIELD – The University of Southern Maine erupted for five second-half goals, including four by junior forward Peyton Dostie, to rally for a 5-2 victory over Westfield State University in Little East Conference field hockey action on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Dostie put on a scoring show for the Huskies (2-3 conference; 5-8 overall) as she also recorded an assist on the game’s final score to boost her team-high total to 31 points (13 goals, 5 assists) this season.
The fast 5-4 forward from Standish, Maine, scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway five minutes into the second half.
She knotted the scored 15 minutes later with an assist from Michaela Demers. Dostie and senior Rebecca Pratt then teamed up for the final three goals, which occurred over a seven-minute span. Dostie scored in the 61st and 65th minutes after nice lead passes from Pratte. Dostie then fed Pratt for the final tally with 2:41 remaining.
Westfield controlled action most of the first half, and the Owls scored on goals by Emily Williams 6:11 into the game and Kelly Kenney in the 22nd minute. Williams found the back of the goal after receiving a cross pass from Sarah Pliszka. Kenney received a cross from Williams and scored inside the left post.
The Owls outshot the Huskies, 5-4, in the first half; however, the Huskies owned a 11-4 shots advantage in their dominating second-half effort.
Westfield goalie Megan Fountaine made seven saves and Southern Maine keeper Kayla Kennedy was credited with four stops.
