Southwick Chief of Police decision delayed

SOUTHWICK – At Monday night’s Select Board meeting, Chairman Doug Moglin decided to yet again delay the decision on the next Southwick Chief of Police. That decision was due to the fact that Select Board Clerk Russ Fox wasn’t present for the meeting.

In order to select the next chief, there needs to be a two-thirds majority from the three members of the Select Board. Therefore, Moglin and Select Board Vice-Chairman Joe Deedy were unable to move forward.

On December 12 the Select Board interviewed the four internal candidates:  Lt. Kevin Bishop, Sgt. Kirk Sanders, Det. Sgt. Robert Landis, and Sgt. Rhett Bannish. The last interviewee of the night, Sanders withdrew his name from the process.

The opening of this position is due to current chief, David Ricardi,  retiring in June 2018, after serving as the chief since 2013.

On Monday evening, Moglin announced that the Select Board will resume the discussion and possible decision on the next Chief of Police at their next meeting on Jan. 3 at 5:15.
