SOUTHWICK – Three local firefighters participated in the New England Firefighters Challenge in Boston this past weekend. Chris Garvey, Nick Laroche, and Shane Hope represented the Southwick Fire Department.

Along with almost 700 other participants, the Southwick firefighters climbed 61 flights of stairs in New England’s tallest building, The Clarendon Towers.

The New England Firefighter Challenge benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Garvey, Laroche, and Hope were able to attend the event through a grant from the Southwick Fireman’s Association.

Fire Chief Russ Anderson and others from the Southwick Fire Department were pleased to hear about three of their members being part of such a positive event.

“Any time members step up take an initiative to represent the fire department in such a positive manner and for a great cause, it’s a win, win for all,” said Chief Anderson. “We appreciate their hard work and time to do so.”
