The Southwick Economic Development Commission is hoping to take advantage of traffic from the Granville Harvest Fair this year.
Held annually on Columbus Day weekend, the fair draws thousands to Granville and many visitors pass through Southwick on their way to Granville. A meeting of the EDC is set for June 20 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall for the purpose of discussing how to entice those crowds to stop in Southwick.
EDC Director Michael McMahon said, “Once you get people to stop – they’ll stop at one of our restaurants, the bike shop, the donut shop – and maybe they’ll come back again.”
Some ideas to draw visitors to spend time and money in Southwick include a town-wide tag sale in Prifti Park, “Fair” specials at restaurants, and sidewalk sales throughout town.
This year, the 31st Annual Granville Harvest Fair is set for Oct. 6-8. During the Fair, the Town Green takes on a life of its own and is transformed into an outdoor bazaar. The Police Association, Fire Department, EMTs, Lion’s Club, along with the Scoop and Hilltown Pork, all provide an array of food. There are usually over 30 vendors and craftsmen displaying a variety of items to view or purchase, as well as live entertainment.
The Federated Church, across from the Town Green, has spaces for vendors in the Fellowship Hall and limited spaces on the lawn. The Village School, library, meetinghouse and drum shop all offer a variety of crafts, food and more. Southwick could benefit from the fair if visitors make a stop in town, said McMahon.
Residents, business owners and anyone interested in finding out more are encouraged to attend the meeting. McMahon said no registration is required and participants should bring their ideas.
