Southwick mourning a loss

SOUTHWICK – The community is mourning the loss of Alex Mello.
Mello, 44, passed away Thursday from complications from sepsis. Mello was hospitalized last weekend for pneumonia.
He leaves his wife Wendi, and children Alexandra and Madison, and many family and friends.
A testament to Mello’s character, his friends rallied after he was hospitalized to form a gofundme account to help his family with medical costs. Mello, a microbiologist, was recently self-employed.
A fundraising pancake breakfast for the Mello family at Moolicious Farm starting at 7 a.m. today will take place as scheduled.
Fellow Southwick residents Kevin Bishop and Joseph Deedy organized the breakfast, which Bishop said will have a more somber tone now that Mello has passed.
He said he and Deedy will have a fire pit outside where family and friends can gather after the breakfast to mourn, share memories, and honor Mello.
