Southwick Police identifying shoplifting suspects

SOUTHWICK – A shoplifting incident was reported to the Southwick Police Department on Tuesday.

The Big Y on 195 College Highway in Southwick did a routine check through their surveillance video system recently and saw two individuals shoplifting from their store. It was discovered that the incident occurred at approximately 12pm on June 1.

According to Southwick Police officer Marc Siegel, both a male and female entered the store, and the female took off with two 12-packs of Red Bull. The male stole three 12-pack cases of the Red Bull. The total value of the Red Bull cases that the suspects took is $115.

Shoplifting energy drinks is not an unusual incident to police departments.

“It’s been a pattern all across the area,” said Siegel. “It’s an easy product to move.”

In a lot of instances, individuals who steal energy drinks like Red Bull will send them to second-hand retail stores or bodegas.

Siegel added that the identity of both the male and female has been discovered by the Southwick Police Department, but they aren’t ready to release the names just yet. Photos of the suspects were posted on the departments social media page.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone who has responded or shared it,” said Siegel.

This incident will be updated once the Southwick Police Department reveals the identity of the suspects.
