SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Recreation Center, a non-profit organization that has been offering youth sports programs to the community for almost 50 years, will be hosting a comedy show on June 16.

The Rec Center building, located just off Powder Mill Rd near Woodland Elementary School, has been the organization’s base of operations for nearly 50 years and is in need of a new roof. Some sports offered by the organization are softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, and floor hockey. Additionally, the Rotary Club, Lions Club, and other groups have used the rec recreation center building for various events.

“Our next project is the roof, it’s had some leakage during the winter months,” said Park and Recreation Board of Directors member Russ Fox. “We’re trying to raise money to address that issue.”

In order to address that issue, Fox and the other board members are putting on a comedy show where all of the proceeds will go towards installing a new roof on the building.

The show will take place at the recreation center on June 16 with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 8 p.m.

According to Fox, Funny Money Comedy Productions out of Connecticut is promoting the show and providing professional comedians from both the Boston and New York City area.

Fox sees this event as a great entertainment opportunity for the public to experience.

“We thought it would be a real fun thing for people and also support a good cause,” said Fox.

In order to attend, you must be at least 21-years-old as there will be a cash bar and other light refreshments.

Tickets for the show cost $15 each and $60 for a table of six people. Tickets are available at the Southwick Florist at 636 College Highway. For more information call the Southwick Florist at 413-569-5962.
