SOUTHWICK – Southwick seniors are ready to party this month, with the annual Summer Sizzler set for Aug. 11 and the Senior Luau on Aug. 25.
The Sizzler is a Parks and Recreation event at the Town Beach that gives seniors the opportunity to enjoy a day on the lake.
The free event is from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and includes lunch, watermelon and beverages, as well as live entertainment by Jack and His Guitar.
Senior Center Director Cindy Sullivan said it’s a fun day attended by staff at the center, as well as 100 senior residents of the town.
“It is very well-attended and people have been talking to us about it all summer,” said Sullivan.
Although it is not a Senior Center event, those who qualify for senior transportation can use it to attend the event.
“And for those who do not qualify but need a ride, we do have a volunteer driver,” Sullivan said.
Anyone who needs a ride should contact the Southwick Senior Center before Tuesday’s Senior Sizzler.
The Senior Center also hosts a summer event for senior residents at the Center in Southwick Town Hall. Sullivan said she started the Senior Luau three years ago as a way to say goodbye to summer.
“We kick-off summer with a barbeque and end it with a luau,” she said.
The luau is from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and costs $5.
“It includes a chicken lunch and other refreshments, as well as games and prizes,” said Sullivan.
Of course Hawaiian attire is encouraged.
