Southwick, Westfield to enter service agreement

SOUTHWICK – The Select Board approved an agreement with Westfield for Weights and Measures services, as well as a Weights and Measures fee increase Tuesday.

Chief Administrative Officer Karl Stinehart noted that there would be a modification to the agreement Wednesday before the agreement went before the Westfield City Council Sept. 19.

“We will be holding them harmless and they will provide workman’s compensation,” Stinehart said of the change in language.

The Select Board unanimously approved the agreement with the amendments.

“This is a regional agreement that will benefit the Town of Southwick’s taxpayers and Westfield’s taxpayers,” said Select Board Chairman Russell Fox.

The fee schedule was amended to align with Westfield’s for a smooth delivery of services.

“You have to accrue these (fees) in a revolving account so this will make sure we are covering our costs,” Stinehart said.

Fox reiterated that there would be no surplus funds from the fee increase.

“The increase will just cover the increase in costs, not add a burden to taxpayers,” he said.
