Starfires batter Bravehearts

WORCESTER – The Westfield Starfires hit their way out of their recent funk, outslugging the Worcester Bravehearts 7-1 Monday night.
Westfield (5-11) battered the Bravehearts with three first-inning runs. The Starfires tacked on one run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings for a 6-0 lead.
Worcester (5-7) finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Westfield erased that run with one of its own in the top of the ninth.
Christian Walsh went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored to lead Westfield. Starfires’ Elijah Dale went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Andrew Selima doubled, walked, and scored a run.
Westfield starting pitcher Chase Jeter tossed five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three batters. Mason St. Pierre provided 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed no hits, two walks, no runs, and had two Ks. Pat Hannon tossed 1 1/3 innings in relief duty. He allowed one hit, no walks, one run and struck out two batters. Jackson Harrigan closed out the game, allowing no hits, one walk, and one run.
Worcester’s Jakob Sessa went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, run scored, and RBI.
