SPRINGFIELD – Westfield State’s Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team as the Owls competed at the season opening Springfield Invitational Tournament.
The Owls dropped a 3-0 decision to the hosts in the season opener on Friday night, falling by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-12.
On Saturday, Starkey hammered 12 kills as in a 3-1 loss to Lawrence (Wisc.) University. The Vikings claimed a 25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19 decision. Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) dished out 30 assists, with Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) recording 23 digs for the Owls.
Starkey added another dozen kills in a 3-0 loss to to Rhode Island College, with set scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 25-15.
Westfield (0-3) will be back in action on Wednesday, hosting Keene State at the Woodward Center at 7:00 p.m. – Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
