State Senate candidate John Cain

JOHN CAIN

Name: John Cain

Address: 15 Liquori Drive Southwick MA

Occupation: Business Owner/ Engineer

What experience will you bring to the Senate seat?

My education at the United States Merchant Marine Academy took me around the world at a young age. Before I was 21, I had been around the world and met people in extreme poverty as well as exuberant wealth. I learned that the United States is the only truly free country. Those liberties and that freedom must be defended.

My experience in the private sector as an engineer and business owner has allowed me to meet a wide variety of people from all walks of life as well.

Raising a family from a young age has given me the experience to understand the hardships working families face on a daily basis. Real world experience is the only way to truly understand the needs of those whom I look to represent. There is no replacement for hands-on real world experience that requires common sense solutions.

I will bring my military, private sector employment, business development, and family building experience to our State Senate. I understand that transparency in our government has been slowly legislated away and how that erosion of transparency has led our people to distrust our elected officials. My opponent continues to advocate for legislation that prevents transparency.

What are the top priorities you have heard from constituents in Westfield and Southwick during your campaign and how will you address them?

As a father, husband, former Naval Officer and business owner I understand the impact our government has on the people of this district. My daily interactions with people of all walks of life throughout the district has shown me that our state legislature is not performing at the level it should be. Western Massachusetts continues to be forgotten in Boston.

The corona virus has exposed many serious deficiencies within our local, state and federal government. My constituents are concerned with job growth, mental health and addiction, and recovering as quickly and safely as possible from the pandemic. Having run a small business, I have first-hand knowledge of the need for skilled labor training as well as the impact the pandemic has had on business.

Prior to the pandemic, our communities were facing a major mental health and opioid crisis that had taken over the lives of many, including my close family and friends. With the loss of jobs, extended quarantine, and the stress and uncertainty of a global pandemic this crisis has grown to a level that has yet to be fully seen. As state senator, I will work to increase skilled labor training opportunities, expand opportunities for those fighting addiction and mental health disorders to seek fulfillment and treatment, and use my real world business development experience to help small business rebuild. Our state legislature has failed our district in many ways, but with a strong voice on Beacon Hill, we will prosper and receive our fair share. I will be that voice-your voice.

Why should you be the next state senator representing the 2nd Hampden and Hampshire District?

As we have seen at all levels of government the time has come for career politicians to join the workforce and live under the laws they have written.

Common sense solutions that do not waste taxpayer money and provide value to our communities are needed now more than ever. As a problem solver I can recognize issues and navigate solutions that not only fix the problem but are fiscally responsible. At a time where revenue is lower it is imperative that our legislators have restraint and insight on spending without resorting to tax increases on the people impacted the hardest.  We will have to make tough decisions. Career politicians are more worried about reelection than actually solving problems. As a professional, not a politician, I guarantee that providing the best value to constituents while addressing their concerns will be the motivating factor to my policy influence. We have all had to change our daily lives while watching the political class break the “rules” and do as they please. It is time to get the career out of politicians and to start holding our elected officials accountable for providing solutions to our problems, not only telling us how much they understand and offering only political rhetoric instead of solutions. I humbly ask for your vote this election.
