My name is Robert Stevenson, and I am a candidate for the 3-year position on the Southwick School Committee.
I believe that I bring a diverse, inclusive parental view to the committee. I have a strong desire to help the school district ensure that they continue to provide exemplary education as well as placing a top priority on the students’ goals and aspirations. Our son Noah was a graduate of SRS in 2020. Zoey will be a senior and Aubrey will be entering into 9th grade this fall.
With each of them having quite different interests, I have had the privilege of meeting many of the teachers and administrators in all three schools. This opportunity has helped me to become familiar with the schools and understand the need for more timely communication on everyone’s part. I look forward to bringing my organizational experience, finance knowledge, and problem-solving expertise to the school committee while learning the challenges, opportunities, and limitations from the other side of the table. Too often in life we do not make the effort to understand the details that create or constrain certain decisions. With your vote, I hope to achieve that understanding and find solutions that satisfy our children’s needs.
I have had a longstanding, personal commitment to community service. During high school, I coached baseball and was a recipient of the prestigious Terry Fox Humanitarian Award. I earned the equivalent of Eagle Scout rank as a member of the Boy Scouts of Canada. Since moving to Southwick, I have been highly active within the Southwick Rec Center, currently serving as a VP on the Rec Center Board, overseeing their school age program.
In addition, I have served for the last ten years as treasurer for the Southwick Soccer committee and member of the Southwick Soccer 3v3 planning committee. I am a Lector and a CCD teacher to junior and high school age children at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield.
My education and work experience is in the healthcare field. I have a BSc in Physical Therapy from McGill University in Montreal. I have 28 years of experience as a Physical Therapist working in multiple treatment settings, with most of my career being spent in the Skilled Nursing arena. I have worked for a national therapy and pharmacy provider, serving in multiple executive roles.
Our family moved to Southwick in 2009 from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. I received my US citizenship in September of 2020. My wife Rachel, children Noah, Zoey, and Aubrey, and I love this community and hope to become an even more integral part of it. So, I ask you to vote for me, Rob Stevenson, for School Committee on May 11th.
Thank you.
Rob Stevenson
