SOUTHWICK – Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District is making math a priority with the addition of Instructional Coach Tara Brandt.
Brandt joined the school system in November and is meeting with administrators and staff as she begins coaching them on teaching math.
“I am an instructional math coach for Granville School, Powder Mill, Woodland and the high school,” said Brandt while addressing the school committee this week.
Brandt was already able to conduct a professional development day at Granville Village School and said she is working with staff to “implement common core teaching” in the district.
Brandt is in her eleventh year in education. After graduating from Columbia University, Brandt said she “fell into teaching” as a long-term substitute in the Chicopee Public Schools. She developed a love for education and worked on her Masters and Administration license at Elms College while teaching in Chicopee. Brandt is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Massachusetts.
