WESTFIELD — Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski was on site to greet students at the Westfield Middle School and Paper Mill Elementary School on the first day Aug. 30.

“It was so great to see all of our students coming back to school today. You could also tell that our students are happy to be back,” he said.

Aug. 30 was the first day of school for grades one to twelve. Preschool, kindergarten and Transition Services students will start school on Sept. 7. All students will begin this school year in person, unless enrolled in the K-8 Virtual School.

Czaporowski said students are still registering at the Central Office across all the schools this week, and numbers are still climbing. As of Aug. 27, 118 students had registered for the Virtual School.

On Aug. 23, the state Board of Education voted to require masks to be worn indoors for all public K-12 students, educators and staff through Oct. 1. Masks may be removed while eating, while outside, and during mask breaks. Masks are also required to be worn by students in grades pre kindergarten through twelve and staff on school buses and in school health offices.
