FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Suk Kyong Szafranski, 78, (1946-2025) of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on April 12th, 2025, due to a hit-and-run incident near her home in Fayetteville. She was transported by ambulance to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where she passed away from her injuries.
Suk Kyong was born in Korea on December 5th, 1946, and married CW3 (Ret.) Paul Szafranski, whom she met in 1972 in Seoul, Korea. They were married on August 25th, 1974, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2024. Suk Kyong settled down in Fayetteville in 1992 after her husband, Paul, retired from the US Army and is survived by him and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Suk Kyong loved gardening and grew chili peppers, zucchini, and other vegetables in a large backyard garden. She also planted and nurtured an Asian pear tree and a persimmon tree, sharing the vegetable and fruit harvest each year with friends and neighbors. She loved to prepare and cook traditional Korean, American, and German foods. She also enjoyed hosting family and friends and demonstrating her culinary skills.
Suk Kyong’s untimely death is felt with great sadness by all who knew and loved her and has left a great void in their hearts.
A Funeral Home Service will be held on Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 12 Noon in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA followed by Burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Main Street, Agawam. Visiting hours will precede the service from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. in the funeral home.
