Suspected pot seller arrested

WESTFIELD – A city teen was arrested last night after city police executed a warrant at his Bates Road home.
Det. Timothy Grady reports that during an ongoing larceny investigation detectives were told that Michael J. Grant, 17, of 141 Bates Road, was a marijuana dealer.
Grady reports that, using a cooperating individual, controlled purchases of marijuana were made from the suspect in the first phase of the investigation.
Armed with the evidence garnered from the purchases, detectives were able to secure a warrant at Westfield District Court.
Detectives arriving at Grant’s home to execute the warrant observed him leave the residence in a car with three other persons and a uniformed officer, Gary Hagar, assisted the detectives by stopping the motor vehicle on Russell Road.
Grant was returned to his home by the officers who executed the warrant.
Det. Sgt. Steven K. Dickinson reports that Grant was cooperative and told the investigators where he had kept his contraband but the department’s K-9 team, Officer Chris Coach and ‘Falco’, nonetheless inspected the house.
Dickinson reports that scales, packaging materials, cash and marijuana were seized as evidence and Grant was arrested for possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute.
Juveniles were formerly defined as persons younger than 17 years-of-age but, since September, 2012, now include youths younger than 18.
Grant’s mother refused to allow detectives to speak with her son without legal representation.
He is expected to be arraigned today in Holyoke Juvenile Court.
