Sgt. Rhett Bannish informed town officials and members of the community that around 3 p.m. on Friday an individual driving a cream-colored van or pickup truck approached a member of one of the cross country teams at Southwick Regional School. The student was running on Depot Street near the rail trail when the operator of that vehicle asked the runner if he needed a ride back to school. After the student ignored the person a couple times, the suspicious individual informed the student to not go down the rail trail and then proceeded to leave the area of Depot St. and head towards Feeding Hills Road.

According to an email from Bannish, the operator is described as a white male with black hair and facial hair and could be in his late teens.

Sgt. Kirk Sanders told the Westfield News that there is no new information on this incident at this time, but it’s currently under investigation. If anyone has information on this suspicious person or the vehicle, contact the Southwick Police Department at 413-569-5348.
