Three Owls earn All-Little-East honors

WSU field hockeyWESTFIELD – Three Westfield State University field hockey players have been named to the Little East Conference’s all-conference team for the 2014 season.
Senior back Kelsey Carpenter (Quabbin Regional/Barre, Mass.) sophomore forward Holly Brouillette (Burlington/Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Meg Doherty (Mansfield/Mansfield, Mass.) were selected for the second team.
Carpenter was ranked second in the conference in defensive saves with 11 this season. She was named Little East Conference field hockey “defensive player of the week” twice this season. She finished the 2014 campaign with two goals and three assists for seven points. In her time at Westfield State she has played in 72 games, totaling four goals, seven assists and 33 points.
Brouillette led the Owls in points with 29. She earned Little East field hockey “player of the week” honors at the beginning of this current season for scoring three goals in the home opener. She finished the year with 11 goals and seven assists. The Owls leading scorer in 2013 as well, she has totaled 24 goals and 11 assists in two years at Westfield State.
Doherty tallied three goals and five assists for 11 points this year.
“She has been a huge play-maker in the midfield for us,” said Owls head coach Jessica Bergen. “She has amazing speed and skill, which she consistently uses to create space and lace some incredible passes to her teammates on the attacking line.”
The Owls finished their season with 8-9 overall record and a 5-6 mark in the Little East Conference.
