WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls’ basketball team is becoming more of a nuisance to opposing teams than the constant onslaught of winter snow.
Westfield caused Ludlow fits, defeating the Lions in a thrilling Saturday morning cage match, 51-50. Grace Templeton made a late, key 3-pointer, and finished with 12 points to lead the Bombers.
“We won … in typical exciting fashion,” Westfield coach Ralph Loos said.
Alicia Arnold also scored 12 points for Westfield, who, with the victory, assured itself of at least a share of a first place tie for the league. Arnold proved critical to the team’s success despite fouling out late.
Westfield’s Alexa Morin recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Karly Mastello provided six points and 16 rebounds for the Bombers.

Saints’ goalie Matt Brady made 21 saves.
“I just want to thank our seniors and their parents,” St. Mary’s coach Don Goodreau said. “We would have loved to send them out with a trip to the playoffs, but it didn’t work out. They should know that their hard work and leadership will be a foundation that we will build off of for future seasons.”
