To the Editor

Hello Westfield, especially Ward 3, To start: I read an interesting article regard 2 men from Westfield, that created a new stat up: EverQuote, that cross references your auto insurance rates to find out if you are being ripped off. Anyone know more about these guys?

The end of this month marks the end of Ramadan…there will be a multi-religious event at the Islamic Center in West Springfield. OK with all the fake news re: Islam being put out by haters here is a curiosity: This will be the 200th anniversary of having an Iftar event in the U.S. President Thomas Jefferson had one with the Tunisian Ambassador during talks about the Barbary Pirates War. And, as early as the 17th Century West African Moslem slaves were being brought to America. By the end of slavery 15-30 % of the slaves were Muslim. A while back I submitted Washington’s letter to the Hebrews of New Port, R.I., praising them and their contribution to America. I have the references to the sources of this information, for those who doubt my veracity and crayon workings. OK, I will stop…but those who know me, know I cannot resist deflating an attitude when I can.

More local; I have noticed a lot of places across the U.S. are looking into contaminated water from similar sources. While we were told that it would be hard to go after the sources to compensate us, with so many, even from Red States, our chances are being enhanced. And, with the Fed’s deep cuts for Environmental Protection, and recovery we really need to be together on this and smart, or suffer the consequences of more of the Me/My/Mine Generation of thinking regardless of the harm to You and others. Unless some of our Councilors undermine our case. I watched the L&O meeting and saw a lot of documentation presented, and having talked with sources for this info. Is it not time to put aside this football and quit playing games just to make our Mayor look bad? We talk about the 2018 and 2020 elections as interesting; I think the 2019 one will also be important to Westfield. Who will be running for Mayor from the group: Allie, Surprise, or Morganelli? (Just speculating from what is being said.)

The last comment is about the budget cuts, and the what we say, versus, what we do problem. Medicare cuts; Louisiana will be kicking, according to their news 1,000’s out of nursing homes as the money won’t be there. Social Security cuts are coming; CHIPS, a med help program for children is happening, Brown Bagging may go national to replace food stamps, so the government will determine what you should eat, if you are poor. Baffle: Red States are the most dependent on Fed tax funded aid, as their states (no we don’t) take care of our own, (as long as it does not cost us anything), and these are not the only cuts that they will be facing. Us, too but we better restructured to survive it. Add in the higher prices for steel and aluminum products, due to our tariffs, oh and gas prices; highest in 4 years. Remember our last gas price hike crisis? There were a lot back then that touted “our economy is going great, our taxes are going down and wages will go up, and we will still be able to afford gasoline….” Did not happen that way. And, maybe your wages will; but so too what things cost. Back to the T.V. series: “Dinosaurs” and their familiar quote from the We Say So Corporation, “trust us because we say so.” My last baffle for today is: why are so many working people so worried about those poor billionaires? They may have to give up a so much if their profits go down 10%. But, don’t worry, our gov’t subsidizes them, and supplements their costs, they are fail safe. And, even if not, having a billion dollars to spare can cushion their losses. I thought that, from Econ. 101 that profit was earnings minus costs? Not anymore, as long as we have inverse socialism Socialism has state run corporations we have corporation run state, and poor people need not apply. I thought we fought a Revolution, in major part, about that? Oh, it took 240 years for us to surrender to the Mercantilists, and neo-Monarchs, and the white flags are up there for all to see. I know; enough for now…. Your former Ward 3 City Councilor, Brian Hoose. [email protected]
