To the Editor

To my friends throughout Westfield, and especially in Ward 3.  I am back working VIPS, at WTA, Tigers Pride…and where are you?  I am so glad to be back…I missed them all.  I will be covering Wed., and Fridays.  So stop by and lets chat.

While I am writing re: WTA; if you remember from a couple of weeks ago I mentioned speaking at the School Committee meeting Re: having a flight training program that would match up with what is happening with aviation repair.  They have planes, an air base, and there are flight instructors…   But, from my past and present awareness of what WTA is doing; there is a problem…the room to do it all.  OK, nothing that is being said inside, but a new WTA building is vital.  Mechanical, technical and other related skills training for not only 21st century jobs, but for job in 10 years or less.  What about robotics, and automated devices education?  What about autonomous cars, far different than our current models; drones, cyber and other computer related jobs?  In my thinking which was a while back when I foresaw these changes the skills needed and the jobs will be in these areas.  Hands on training is becoming the new model for education.  Theory and practice are the primary job requirements.

There can be a crossover of what the High School is doing and WTA is doing.  An integrated process.  $50-60K starting pay, without college loan debt?  Do you have to think about it???  And, this is throughout the employment scope.  Colleges, I hope, will soon be transitioning to this kind of academic.  Vital for them to do so, and for us and our youth.  I hate to call the kids, they are young adults as they take on this Next New Human Epoch.  We have the resources: teachers, job need based education, and JOBS.  And, with the rapid rate of change; look at how much has changed since 2000!  This is vital to their futures and ours.  I hope the living in the past City Councilors who want to kill or keep out any NEW industry from coming it does not get in the way but that is up to y0ou, you hire them.  New industries basically do not pollute.  Only D.C. thinks that fossil fuels are still the thing.  Smart people in smart jobs that is the way of this Next New Generation.  Think about it.  Pilot training could start in a year or two.  But, all the other vital occupations have already begun to be on the rise.

D.C. tells us about the low unemployment, well our generation is retiring, and a lot are not prepared or educated to the new business economic.  And, you cannot wait and see, and come in second.  There is no second.  You are there or not.  The next new set of business innovations will happen in 5-10 years or less.  Or, we could become one of those quaint little towns that never evolved, and live in eternal poverty.  Again, your choice, you decide because you know what and who you are voting/investing in.  Right???  Your feedback is welcome…see you at Tiger’s Pride.   Your former Ward 3 City Councilor, Brian Hoose…[email protected]
