TOLLAND – The Tolland Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its first ever Game Dinner at the Tolland Public Safety Complex on March 1 with all of the proceeds going back to the Tolland Fire Department.

According to Tolland Fire Chief Eric Munson, one of the volunteer firefighters approached him about doing a game dinner. With several members of the fire department being avid sportsmen, Munson thought it would be a good opportunity for the public.

“We’re always looking for things to do for the townspeople,” said Munson.

The cost for the game dinner is $40 per ticket and consists of a five-course meal that will include moose, deer, elk, bear, fish, beaver, goose, and others. The dinner is open to the public but the time has not yet been determined.

Munson noted that this fundraising dinner will be more formal where guests will have each of their meals served to them and specially prepared. The Tunxis Club, a private fish and game club in Tolland, will provide an executive chef to prepare all of the meals.

Munson hopes that the unique event will have a positive outcome for the community.

“We’re trying to step up the game and add a different kind of experience,” said Munson.

Besides the dinner, raffle prizes will also be offered. Some of the raffle prizes include two rifles and hunting and fishing supplies. Munson noted that the rifles purchased by the Tolland Fire Department for the event were from Paladin Firearms in New Marlborough, Mass. The owner of Paladin Firearms will be at the dinner to make sure the rifle winners have a license to carry.

Munson said that there is a limit of 80 people for the event. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Tolland Fire Department at 413-258-2859 to reserve a spot.

“If it’s successful we’ll probably open it up to a larger group next year,” said Munson.

The Tolland Fire Department is also looking for volunteers to help with the event, specifically high school students who may need the hours for National Honors Society, Boy and Girls Scouts, and other organizations. There’s a need for servers and dishwashers.
