Southwick Town Beach re-opened

SOUTHWICK – Health Inspector Thomas Fitzgerald gave the okay to re-open the Southwick Town beach today.
The beach was closed earlier this week due to unusually high detection of E coli bacteria. Normally, the beach water has about six organisms per 1,000 milliliters and after last weekend’s rainstorms, the water tested Monday at 400 organisms.
Fitzgerald said Thursday that the number was reduced by half. The Environmental Protection Agency allows swimming in water with 235 organisms per 1,000 milliliters.
