The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection required that any single-walled underground steel storage tanks needed to be removed and install double-walled tanks by July 1, 2018 to comply with DEP’s new regulations.

Having opened the Union Mart in 2010 as a gas station and convenience store, the Patel’s had to temporarily close their business in the summer of 2017 to address the state edict. Since closing the store last summer, construction has taken place to install the double-walled storage tanks.

There are very few changes to the original site plan that the Patel’s had created when they opened in 2010. One change is that the business will have seven parking spots, with two spots being used for handicap parking.

The Planning Board approved the site plan, which now allows the Patel’s to bring their site plan to the Select Board.
