WESTFIELD – Westfield State University’s Lee Vazquez was selected the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men’s basketball player of the week.
The hard-working 5-6 senior guard from Attleboro, Mass. (Woonwocket (R.I.) High School) earned most valuable player honors in leading the Owls to the title in the Rutgers-Camden Tournament by averaging 25.5 points (including the 1,000th point of his career) and six rebounds.
Vazquez scored 30 points in an 84-80 overtime championship victory over Rutgers-Camden and added 21 points and seven boards in a 69-64 win over Penn State-Brandywine.
He connected on seven 3-point baskets and made all 16 free throw attempts in the two-day tournament.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they play Fisher College in Lynn, Mass.
