Velis receives Army Reserve orders in support of COVID-19 efforts

WESTFIELD – State Rep. John C. Velis, a U.S. Army Reserve Major, was called to support the mobilization of a Massachusetts unit this week.

Velis said he began his orders March 31.

“This unit was mobilized in direct response to COVID-19,” Velis said. “This is an unprecedented time, and the Army, like all services, is being used to support efforts to combat this virus and I’m honored to do my part.”

Velis said his orders are for several days and is not a deployment.

Velis said while he is under orders, he is still performing his duties as a state representative.

“I’ve been on the phone constantly with residents and my office has increased staff to handle constituent concerns,” said Velis. “I’ve been talking non-stop with constituents and I will continue to do so. In fact, people can call my cell phone at 413-356-5977.”

Velis can also be contacted at [email protected] or (413) 572-3920.
