Velis reflects on 2019

Rep. John Velis

Hello Westfield!

I hope you all had a great holiday week either spending that time with family or doing what you most enjoy for the season. One of the amazing parts of my job is getting to meet so many different people and see so many different organizations and I am always amazed at and proud of the giving and joyous nature of this time.

This week was the Menorah lighting and it was great to attend and celebrate the start of Hanukkah with the community similar to the Tree lighting being a great time to celebrate the holiday season with everyone. It is always amazing to me to be able to see how the community is able to come together to support one another with whatever they celebrate and publicly displaying that support.

With 2019 wrapping up and this decade ending, I wanted to just go back and reminisce a bit about this past year. This past year was the first year of the 191st session of the two year session in the MA legislature and it has been a very busy year as it usually is.  We passed the Student Opportunity Act which will bring major education reform to our education system to create establish equity for all students in the Commonwealth.  When it comes to the Supplemental Budget, I filed an amendment to ensure that any affected community, especially Westfield, would not be penalized for having done the testing of our water ahead of the state and ensuring our ability to seek reimbursement of such expense. With all of that said, I know I am not including everything as it is very hard to sum up everything, but I am proud of the work that has been done by everyone, we will just have to see what the next year brings us!

So with that I will say, see you next year and I hope it is another great one! As always, if you have any questions or concerns about bills or any other issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out. My office can be reached at [email protected] or (413) 572-3920. Have a great week!
