Vernon L. Wilkinson, Jr.

Easthampton – Vernon Lee Wilkinson, Jr., 54, (1962-2016) of Easthampton, MA passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife, son and family. Vern dedicated himself to a long, successful career with Friendly Restaurants, where his warm, kind demeanor and gentle spirit welcomed customers and colleagues alike for many years.  He was a great sports fan, particularly of his beloved Red Sox and the Patriots.  He enjoyed time with his family and many friends, walking his dogs, and was a noted trivia expert in baseball and old TV shows. A 1981 graduate of Westfield High, Vern was particularly proud of his four years as manager of the varsity basketball team, helping them to many successful seasons.Vern leaves behind his wife and best friend of 18 years Brenda Sudyka Wilkinson, his son Patrick Knox Jr.,  his sister Peggy Burke and her husband Paul of Westfield , Peter Wilkinson and his wife Dianne of West Newbury, Susie Pickett and best friend Jim Evitts of Chicopee and John Wilkinson and wife Lisa of Albany.  Vern also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is also great missed by his dogs Sophie and Lowla. Vern was predeceased by his mom and dad, Vernon Sr. and Mary Wilkinson, and his sister Judy and brother in law John Reeves.Calling hours will be held at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home at 76 Broad Street in Westfield, on Monday, November 7 th from 4-7pm. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Service at St Mary’s Church, Bartlett St., Westfield, at 10:30. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family requests In lieu of flowers that donations are made to the Sr. Caritas Cancer Center, 271 Carew St. Springfield MA. Vern’s family would like to thank all of his special caregivers from Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Hospice.
