WESTFIELD – A Noble Street resident parked her car in her driveway Friday evening, thinking her 2000 Saab coupe was safely tucked away for the night, but in the wee hours of the morning she was awakened by the sounds of a crash which left the bumper of her car hanging and the rear end crumpled.
City police report that the victim called police at 1:48 a.m. to report the crash and officers Juanita Mejias and James Renaudette responded to the call. Renaudette reports that the victim said that she looked out to see a light colored vehicle leaving the driveway after she was awakened by the sound of the crash.
The officers’ search of the area did not yield any suspect vehicles, leaving the police few avenues to investigate the crime but the victim, and her boyfriend, are still hoping to help find the culprit, or at least the vehicle, responsible for the damage to the car.
The victim’s boyfriend has taken the lead in the search and said he hopes that the spotlight of publicity, and the offer of a reward, may induce somebody who knows of the crash, or sees the vehicle, to act.
The man believes that the suspect vehicle had been turning left on to Noble Street from Main Street when the operator lost control in the intersection, struck the curbing on the west side of Noble Street and careened across the roadway into his driveway where his girlfriend’s car was parked.
He said that there were at least two male parties in the vehicle as his girlfriend heard male voices, one of which said “We gotta get out of here.”
The man said that he reasons that the offending vehicle must have “extensive front end damage and probable air bag deployment,” as well as possible damage to the right front tire and wheel.
He said he hopes that somebody may have seen the crash, may see the vehicle at a repair facility or may know of the accident by other means and may be willing to help. He asks that such a person call him, at 246-0340, or the police department’s Traffic Bureau at 562-5411 to share any relevant information.
