WESTFIELD – Wayne C. Nielsen, 74, passed away at home Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Westfield to the late Charles and Ida (Fritz) Nielsen. He was a lifelong resident of Westfield, attended local schools and was a 1960 graduate of Westfield Trade School. He was a U.S Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1961-1965. Wayne spent 29 years at the 104th Fighter Wing and retired in 1997. He was a member of American Legion Post 124, and was an avid New England Patriots fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife Kathy. He leaves his wife of 27 years, Kathy C. Nielsen, his children Jeffrey and Brian Nielsen of Westfield, Tammy Shiel and her husband Greg of Chicopee, and Kim Censabella and her husband Michael of Springfield. Wayne also leaves his grandchildren William and Kaylee Kuhn, Nathaniel and Carley Censabella, and Taven Lampson. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Charles and Bruce Nielsen. He also leaves behind his sister-in-laws Barbara and Beverly Nielsen, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a beautiful soul who always brought joy to everyone’s life. Known for his wittiness and great sense of humor, he will be missed by many.
The funeral for Wayne will be held on Friday, April 28th at 1 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home from 11 am till 1 pm. Firtionadams.com
