Westfield Bank donates $6,600 to Westfield High

CHARLES JENDRYSIK

WESTFIELD – When Westfield High School students finally do get the all-clear to return to school, they will begin to see another upgrade to the school’s fitness room.
Westfield Bank recently presented the School Committee with a donation of $6,600 for the WHS Physical Education Department.
“This is something that I strongly have been in support of and am appreciative of the Westfield Bank’s generosity and kindness,” WHS principal Charles Jendrysik said.
The PE Department has been working for years to continually update their antiquated fitness facility. The latest donation will be used toward replacing the dumbbells (free weights) in the fitness room, as well as adding a new cardio rowing machine.
WHS phys ed instructor Gabe Crane spearheaded the effort to help upgrade the fitness room at the school. With the support of the principal, school officials have successfully solicited the financial assistance from the local community.
Last year, Westfield Bank CEO/President Jim Hagan presented a $10,000 check to the school toward major improvements to the fitness facility. That money was used to fund a squatting, benching, and pull-up station as well as new cardio and weight-lifting equipment.
The Physical Education Department has also received other small sums of money and contributions over the last couple years through grant writing and other local businesses such as Elm Electric and TJ Bark Mulch.
