Westfield explodes for six second-period goals

WEST SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield High School hockey team is on a bit of a tear, offensively speaking.
After netting just two goals in a 5-2 season opening loss to Longmeadow, Westfield has scored a combined 15 goals through two games. The latest resulted in the Bombers’ second straight victory, an 8-4 rout of Ludlow last night at the Olympia.
Junior forwards Nick Sibilia and Sean Spohr both scored hat tricks for Westfield.
Sibilia collected his hat trick with three goals, all in the second period. He was also credited with a fourth goal midway through the third. Spohr’s first goal tied the game 2-2 early in the second period – Westfield trailed 2-0 after one period – while his second effort gave his team a two-goal lead. His third goal came late in regulation.
Senior forward Conner Laraway had one goal and three assists for Westfield. Bombers’ Kyle Levere finished with two assists.
Westfield scored six second-period goals. The Bombers return to action Saturday evening against the Minnechaug Falcons at Amelia Ice Arena, beginning at 6.

LATE RESULTS
St. Mary 5, St. Joe’s 5
Zach Slepchuk scored two goals, Nate Tremblay had one goal and one assist, and Sean Bienvenue and Stephen Roache netted one goal apiece for St. Mary. Saints’ Trey Tremblay collected two assists.
St. Mary goalie Zach Brown finished with 35 saves.
