WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School Girls Track team faced Longmeadow March 31 in a match that ended in the Bombers’ defeat.
Although it was a tough loss 79-21, our small squad did a great job,” said Head Coach Kevin Matuszczak. “We had two first place finishes. Senior Catie Bean won the 55 meters with a record time of 7.4 seconds, tying the school record and senior Marissa Feary tied her personal best by winning the high jump at four-feet eight-inches.”
Other athletes who scored for WHS include senior Abby Daley who scored second in the 1000 meters, while sophomore Shea McDonald finished a strong second in the one mile run.
“Sophomore Rilee Labonte had a great second place finish in the 55 hurdles, senior Rebekki Clauson finished third in the 300 meters, and super freshman, Hanna Shear, finished third in the 600 meter,” said Matuszczak.
Matuszczak said the entire team contributed.
“All the girls practice hard, try new events and enjoy the ability to finally compete during these challenging times,” he said. “We have a great bunch of young women who continue to dedicate hours every week to improve each and every day. And our new Assistant Coach Victoria Pike is a true asset to our program.”
