Westfield girls’ lax finish 16-2

Westfield senior Nikki Beliveau and the Bombers’ girls’ lax program have waited a lifetime for this moment, so one more day should not matter.
Westfield closed out its regular season with a 17-8 rout of Monson Tuesday at home. The Bombers, who captured their first league title in a decade, finished their 2012 campaign with a record of 16-2. They will learn of their first opponent when tournament seeds are announced today.
Nikki Beliveau, whose play likely will dictate whether Westfield creates any further history, scored four goals and two assists yesterday. Beliveau finished with 85 goals and 29 assists for a total of 114 points, becoming one of the program’s most distinguished players ever.
“Our goal is to get a home game and win a game,” Westfield coach Paul Fenwick said. “Small steps first, then big ones.”

NOTES: Mary Boudreau netted a hat trick against Monson; Ashley Owen, Ashley Pechulis, and Victoria Whalen scored two goals apiece; Jessica Hale (assist), Roni Orcutt, Caroline Senecal, and Laura Paye each contributed one goal; and, Victoria Meneses (4 saves) earned the win in net. …Eleven junior varsity players were called up to play in yesterday’s game, all receiving playing time. …The Westfield boys’ lacrosse team also qualified for the tournament, and awaits its postseason announcement.
