Westfield reports 68 new COVID-19 cases; weekly numbers slowly improve

WESTFIELD- The Health Department reported 68 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 this week to bring the city’s pandemic total to 2881.

As of Wed., April 7 there were 99 Westfield residents who were in isolation due to COVID-19.

For the first time in nearly two months, no COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the City of Westfield for one full reporting period. The pandemic total for deaths remains at 113.

Health Director Joseph Rouse said Thursday, April 8 that the last time the city went a full week without any deaths was the week of Feb. 11-17. It is not immediately clear if the lack of deaths is a product of the increasing number of vaccinated residents, or if it is a statistical anomaly.

The 68 new cases this week represent a slow decline in the number of weekly cases over the last two weeks following the recent spike. Last week, 75 cases were reported in Westfield. The week before, there were 80 cases.
