Westfield has slight rise in weekly COVID-19 cases

WESTFIELD- The Westfield Health Department reported 47 new confirmed COVID-19 cases this week to bring the citiy’s pandemic total to exactly 2,500 cases.

The Health Department also reported five additional deaths relating to COVID-19, bringing the city’s pandemic total for deaths to 101. Forty-seven residents were in isolation with active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The 47 new cases represents a slight rise in the number of weekly cases from the previous week, breaking a weeks-long streak of falling case numbers. Health Director Joseph Rouse said last week that a slight rise in cases could be expected, and could possibly be attributed to Superbowl gatherings on Feb. 7.

Rouse said last week that he also expects that the bump in case numbers will be temporary, and the numbers should continue to go down afterwards.
