Westfield Republican City Committee

WESTFIELD-Daniel Allie, chair of the Westfield Republican City Committee, said members are currently discussing events for the coming months.

“We hold the Lincoln Day Brunch in February, except this year,” said Allie, noting the “regional event” has been attended by political leaders including Gov. Charlie Baker.

“Each year we honor our veterans, community and youth volunteers,” he said.

Allie, who has been active in the organization for 10 years, serves with Andrew Surprise, vice chair, and Bill Scheenloch, treasurer.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the committee has been meeting over the Zoom platform on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

“The committee has supported a number of local candidates, and been involved in many issues including Repealing the Automatic Gas Tax, trying to end Common Core, Vote No on four-year term of mayor, and other issues,” said Allie.

Allie noted “self-governing requires informed and involved citizens.”

“Government has become too big, costs too much, and is unable to provide the services for which specific taxes were created,” he said. “It has become less responsive to citizens with unelected and unaccountable agencies creating regulations with the power of law. That is the role of the legislature, not agencies.”
