AMHERST – Austin St. Pierre (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, 2 walks), Ari Schwartz (3-for-4, 3 RBIs, 1 run), and Nick Clegg (2-for-3, 3 runs, 1 RBI) spearheaded the Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball 14-Year-Old All-Stars’ 17-1 blowout win over host Amherst Tuesday night.
Westfield (2-0) cemented its spot in the state All-Stars tournament, which begins later this week.
Sean Murphy pitched a four-hitter and struck out five in 4 innings of work. Ari Schwartz delivered three innings of no-hit ball. Schwartz struck out one.
Schwartz entered the game in the fifth inning with runners on first and third. A wild pitch on the first pitch, allowed Amherst’s only run to score.
Westfield scored 11 of 12 runs in the fifth inning with two outs, including a line shot, a two-RBI single from Schwartz, after intentionally walking St. Pierre to load the bases.
