WESTFIELD – Students may be off campus for the spring, but honors continue to roll in for Westfield State University student athletes.
Westfield State field hockey recently received several academic honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Owls players Jenna Barros (Rehoboth/Dighton-Rehoboth), Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester), Cheryl Latona (Granby, Conn.), Kayleigh Irish (Charlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) , Liv Mikkila (Auburn, Mass.) , Marina Small (South Harwich/Monomoy) and Victoria Smiarowski (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy) earned recognition on the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.
The Owls’ field hockey team as a whole was named as one of 147 programs have earned the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award.
The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2019-2020 school year.
Owls compiled a team GPA of 3.02 during the fall semester.
