Westfield State mourns death of student

WESTFIELD (AP) — The Westfield State University community is in mourning over the unexpected death of a student and football player.
Twenty-two-year-old Edmond Fallon was found dead in his apartment late last week.
The cause of death remains under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious.
Fallon was a senior with a double major in English and political science. He was also a starting offensive lineman for the school’s football team.
He grew up in Wilbraham and graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School.
Football coach Pete Kowalski called Fallon “a good student, a pillar of the community, a dedicated, hard-working football player and a friend and a brother to everyone on the team.”
Westfield State University issued a statement over the weekend:
We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of a member of the Westfield State University campus community. Edmond “Eddie” Fallon of Wilbraham, Mass., Westfield State Class of 2015, was found dead in his apartment yesterday at the age of 22. It is too early for authorities to determine a cause of death.
Eddie was academically strong and personally vibrant, which makes this news even more distressing and an immense source of grief. He was double majoring in English and political science. Eddie was perhaps best known for his skills as an offensive lineman on the football field where he was a starting left tackle for the Westfield State Owls football team.
“It’s a tragic situation any time you lose a person as young as Eddie,” said Westfield State head football coach Pete Kowalski. “He was a four year player for us, from Wilbraham. We have players on the team who grew up with him, from elementary school right through college, played football with him their entire lives. To say that this is a shock to the Westfield State football family is huge understatement. He was everything that you want in a student athlete; a good student, a pillar of the community, a dedicated, hard-working football player and a friend and a brother to everyone on the team. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fallon family right now.”
The university community extends our deepest sympathy to Eddie’s family and friends at home for their profound loss.
