WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School swim program turned back West Springfield Friday night to the tune of convincing victories from both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
BOYS’ SWIMMING
Westfield 109, West Springfield 73
Tommy Russell (200 freestyle, 1:48.67; 100 free, 49.82), Patrick Lurgio (200 individual medley, 2:15.12; 100 breaststroke, 1:10.83), and Nicholas Rosso (50 free, 22.96; 100 butterfly, 56.48) won two events apiece for Westfield, and the Bombers finished first in all three relay races in a home rout.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Westfield 130, West Springfield 55
Rachel Charette (200 IM, 2:23.56; 100 fly, 1:06.46) and Emilie Pease (100 free, 58.48; 100 backstroke, 1:05.23) each won two events to lead Westfield. The Bombers also claimed gold in all three relays.

Bonney solid in defeat
Chicopee Comp 5, St. Mary 3
Chicopee Comp’s 2-0 second period proved to be the difference Friday night at Amelia Park Arena. Derek Boutin netted two goals and three others scored one apiece.
Kenny Bonney had a hand in all three St. Mary goals, scoring twice and assisting on another by Shaun Gezotis.
St. Mary goalie Matt Brady made 24 saves. Chicopee Comp netminder Kyle Vezina finished with 33.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
White, Rams prevail
Southwick 40, Smith Academy 16
McKinley White led the way with 15 points to pace Southwick. Rams’ Brooke Waitt chipped in eight.
Cybercats claw past Saints
Sci-Tech 72, St. Mary 12
Three players scored in double digits – Olivia Goodrow led Sci-Tech with 18 points, Desiree Crawford had 17, and Ann Harrington finished with 14 – and the Cybercats cruised at home.
Herman paces Gators
Pioneer Valley Christian Academy 23, Gateway Regional 21
PVCA nipped Gateway in Springfield. Gators’ Becca Herman and PVCA’s Natalie Rayder tied for a game-high eight points.
Tigers fall
Franklin Tech 33, Westfield Technical Academy 19
Westfield Tech showed some improvement on the road at Franklin Tech, limiting the opposition to under an average of 9 points per quarter.
Lancers race past Bombers
Longmeadow 67, Westfield 31
Longmeadow raced out to a 24-4, first-quarter lead and led 45-8 at the break at home. Daisy Gelinas and Taylor Shubruck led the Lancers with 13 points apiece.
Westfield’s Kaela Mochak scored a game-high 16.
Southwick JV 32, Smith Academy 10
Southwick’s junior varsity squad won with balanced scoring as Kayla Andrade, Kathleen Shea, and Emily Martin scored six points apiece.
