WESTFIELD – The Westfield State University women’s swimming and diving team celebrated Senior Day in style with an 111-86 victory over Western Connecticut State University on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Westfield concludes its dual meet season with a 5-3 record while Western Connecticut State is 3-5. The teams will be competing in the New England championships on Feb. 14-16 at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.
Finishing first for the Owls were: Amanda Labriola (50 backstroke), Kaylee Hopkins (200 freestyle), Kirsten LaMotte (50 breaststroke), Kristen O’Leary (100 butterfly), Katie Sterpka (1-meter diving), and the 200 individual medley relay of Anna Boucher, LaMotte, Holly Arel, and Haylee McQuay.
McQuay placed second in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Also finishing second for the Owls were: LaMotte (100 individual medley), Boucher (50 backstroke), Torie St. John (50 breaststroke), Kerry Sullivan (200 freestyle), Lesly Cano (100 butterfly), Emily Fullerton (1-meter diving).
Western Connecticut’s Danielle Leprine finished first in three events: 100 individual medley, 100 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. Katie Meerman was a double winner, touching the wall first in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle.
