Westfield voters favor Joe Biden, Donald Trump

Southwick, Westfield voters favor Velis

WESTFIELD – More than 7,000 residents voted in the Presidential Primary election March 3.

There were 5,230 residents who voted in the Democratic primary. Joseph R. Biden came out on top with 1,891 votes, with Bernie Sanders getting 1,630. Also receiving votes were Elizabeth Warren, 709; MIchael Bloomberg, 632; Pete Buttigieg, 107; Amy Klobuchar, 67; Deval Patrick, 60; Tulsi Gabbard, 34; Tom Steyer, 15; Andrew Yang, 12; Marianne Williamson, 5; Michael Bennet, 4; two each for Cory Booker and Julian Castro, and 1 for John K. Delaney in the unofficial results. There were 43 votes for no preference; 23 blanks, and 19 write-ins.

There were 1,791 residents who  voted in the Republican Presidential Primary, with 1,555 votes cast for Donald J. Trump; 143 for William F. Weld; 25 for Joe Walsh; 9 for Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente; 29 no preference; 17 blanks and 16 write-ins.

Howard Hawkins received two votes for president in the Green-Rainbow Party, and in the Libertarian Party, two votes were cast for Dan Taxation is Theft Behrman, one vote for Vermin Love Supreme, and one vote for Kenneth Reed Armstrong.

In the Special State Primary for State Senator First Hampshire and Hampden on the Democratic ballot, 4,977 voted for John C. Velis, with 130 blanks and 72 write-ins of 5,179 votes cast. On the Republican ballot, 1,587 voted for John Francis Cain, with 117 blanks and 79 write-ins out of 1,783 votes cast.

In the contested race for State Democratic Committee – Man on the Presidential Primary ballot, David George Morin received 2,303 votes, and Raymond M. P. Drewnowski received 1,360 votes. In uncontested races, Marjorie R. Dunehew received 3,575 for State Democratic Committee – Woman; Richard A. Berrena received 1,201 for State Republican Committee – Man, and Linda L. Vacon for State Republican Committee – Woman.

All six wards elected residents to the Westfield Democratic Committee for four years. Elected were Constance L. Adams, Estelle J. Streeter, Patricia O’Neil Hanrahan, Ann E. Aylward, Roy L .Streeter and Mark S. Hanrahan in Ward 1; Andrea M. Veras, Erin M. O’Connor, Frederick A. Pugliano in Ward 2; Margaret J. Matuck, Linda L. Kibe, Jeffrey L. Gosselin, Judith P. Fouard Giuscastro in Ward 3; Kathryn W. Martin, Scott E. Letendre, Andrew C. Hendricks, Warren H. Hill, Rosemary Flynn, Kathleen M. Flynn, Nicholas N. Marshall and Daniel D. Call in Ward 4; Margaret McLennen, Edward H. Ziskowski, Michael M. Harling, Janet Huntington, and Frederick Huntington, II in Ward 5; and Brian P. Sullivan, Gerald R. Paist, and Edward C. Brown in Ward 6. Voters may select up to 35 candidates in each ward.

Three out of the six wards fielded candidates for the Westfield Republican Committee for four years. Elected were Kelly W. Pease, Richard W. Salois, Rene M. Laviolette, Daniel M. Moriarty, John W. Bowen, Jr., Nicholas J. Morganelli, Jr. and Joseph S Tierney in Ward 1; Dan Allie, Rudy F. Musterait, Antoinette T. Fisher, Eric Wayne Keiderling, Theresa Marie Allie, Michael R. Knapik, Kathleen A. Knapik, and Matt Emmershy in Ward 2; and Stephen John Ryan, Albert George Giguere, Jr., Marie Susan Ryan, Brian C. Richards, Marion E. Barre, Vincent R Barre, and Donna L. Ormsby in Ward 5.

Southwick results

In Southwick, about 3,000 of the just under 7,000 registered voters cast their ballots in the preliminary election. Town Clerk Michelle Hill said during early voting, 409 voters came to Town Hall and cast 807 ballots. Including early voting, there were a total of 1,182 Democratic presidential ballots, 917 Democratic state ballots and  908 votes were cast  for John C. Velis for the 2nd Hampden and Hampshire Senate District.

In the Republican primary, 676 ballots were cast, with 669 in the state race and Republican Senate candidate John Cain received 660 votes.
