WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls’ lacrosse team received an offensive explosion, but more importantly tightened the reins on its defense for a big win Thursday.
Victoria Whalen (2 assists) and Ashlee Owen scored three goals apiece, and Laura Payes added two goals and one assist to help lead Westfield to a 17-2 win over visiting Holyoke Catholic.
“It was a good effort all-around for the defense,” Westfield coach Paul Fenwick said, “from the attack riding to the middies, and the defense sliding for help and double-teaming.”
“It was a great defensive game from our side – that’s what we’ve been waiting for.”
